Indian Embassy in Kuwait organises 'India-Kuwait Technology Conference'

Kuwait City [Kuwait], October 24 (ANI): The Indian Embassy in Kuwait, along with the National Association of Software and Services Company of India (NASSCOM), the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), and the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), organised an ‘India-Kuwait Technology Conference in Kuwait City on October 23.

The conference was organised at the Four Seasons Hotel in Kuwait City, where around 20 prominent IT companies from NASSCOM, India participated.

“The conference was attended by a cross-section of representatives from various ministries and government organisations, business houses, banking and other institutions, including heads of bodies like CITRA, KneT, etc,” an official statement read.

The Ambassador of India in Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, spoke on the growth of the information technology sector in India, providing some current facts and statistics at the conference.

The facts inluded, “estimated Indian technology industry revenue of USD 245 billion in FY 2023; contribution of the IT sector to 53 percent in India’s service exports; India being the third largest and fastest-growing hub for technology startups with 23 new unicorns added in 2022; 59 number of SaaS unicorns and potential unicorns; FDI equity inflow of USD 93.58 billion between April 2000 and December 2022.”The envoy further added that India is one of the most preferred destinations for setting up Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and over 45 new data centres are to come up in India by 2025.

” The announcement of Google cloud services in India with a USD 1 billion investment in new data centres and opening of its global fintech operation centre at GIFT City in Gujarat; announcement by Amazon Web Services of plans to invest USD 12.7 billion into India by 2030, bringing its total investment to USD 16.4 billion over a period spanning almost a decade and a half; Infosys to create the Generative AI Labs to develop industry-specific AI solutions and train 20,000 employees on Google Cloud’s gen AI solutions, etc,” he added.

The envoy highlighted how India has leveraged technology to transform governance and make it more efficient, inclusive, faster and transparent, and how “India’s Digital Public Infrastructure offers scalable, secure and inclusive solutions for global challenges.”A solution that succeeds in India can be easily applied anywhere in the world, including in Kuwait, he said, adding that New Delhi was ready to share its experiences with the world.

“There are immense possibilities for bilateral cooperation with Kuwait in the Information Technology sector, particularly at a time when Kuwait, through its Vision 2035 Economic Diversification Plan and the new government programme, is keen to modernise and digitalize its economy and become a smart commercial hub in the region,” the ambassador said further.

The board member of KCCI, Wafa Al-Qatami, also echoed similar sentiments, as did experts from CITRA and other authorities that participated in the event, the statement read.

A panel discussion was organised as part of the conference, involving NASSCOM companies as well as representatives of CITRA, National Bank of Kuwait and Diyar United, that discussed the opportunities, challenges and awareness-building related to the IT sector.

The post by India in Kuwait read further, “A Panel Discussion on Exploring the Full Potential of IT Cooperation was held, moderated by Mr Ajay Singh, TCS; with panelists from CITRA, NBK, Diyar Utd, InadevSEA Infonet – giving perspectives on the potential of India-Kuwait collaboration in ITES sector.”According to the statement, “A B2B networking event was held in the afternoon of October 23, during which NASSCOM delegates met with various visiting company representatives from Kuwait.”The NASSCOM delegation had very useful and productive meetings with the Chairman of CAIT, CITRA, KCCI Vice-Chairman, KPC and KPMG teams on October 22, 2023.

The India-Kuwait Information Technology Conference is expected to result in greater bilateral cooperation between India and Kuwait in the Information Technology Sector. (ANI)
