You know what I’ve been thinking? It’s been quite the tailend of the month for Cecilia Kay, who is climbing double-double rankings like a mountaineer.
The Bishop Fenwick girls basketball star – yes, without a doubt, one of the top players in the state – said goodbye to 2023 like no one’s business.
Dominant. Like, early 2000s Shaquille O’Neal dominant, you know?
Across a four-game stretch against Newburyport, Medfield, Walpole, and fellow powerhouse Bishop Feehan, these were her splits:
Newburyport: 18 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks
Feehan: 22 points, 10 rebounds
Medfield: 16 points, 16 rebounds
Walpole: 22 points, 17 rebounds
With those numbers, Most Valuable Player comes to mind, and you’d be right. Kay received the honors Friday afternoon as Fenwick captured the Sue Rivard Tournament at Oliver Ames (56-45 over Walpole in the title game).
Fenwick is 5-1 before Cardinal Spellman comes to visit on Friday. Will Kay come down with another double-double? We’ll see you then.
Cecilia, good week.
