You know what I’ve been thinking? Despite the cold weather (it’s awful, isn’t it?), no one on the North Shore has a hotter hand than Alex Fleming right now.
Lynnfield’s boys basketball star had himself quite the week.
Tuesday night, Fleming played the role of the hero against Rockport. In the 65-63 final, he scored 23 points, tracked down 12 rebounds, and made the game’s biggest play.
Despite a five-point deficit in the final minute, the Pioneers clawed their way back. And in the end, Fleming put a lid on things with a buzzer-beater to win the game.
Every basketball player’s dream.
Despite a loss to Newburyport (undefeated in the Cape Ann League) three nights later, the Clippers didn’t intimidate Fleming, who still scored 15 points.
Even dating back to the tail-end of last week, Fleming scored 16 points and hauled in 14 rebounds in a dominant win against North Reading.
Lynnfield hosts Manchester-Essex in a Monday matinee at 1 p.m. Will Fleming’s hot streak reach new temperatures, or will the Hornets slow him down?
Alex, good week. Keep shooting.
