ROUNDUP: KIPP comes up short in enemy territory
Share This

After Monday night’s electrifying, up-and-down home win against Whitinsville Christian, the No. 26 KIPP basketball team met its match on the road Thursday night, falling to No. 7 Clinton by a score of 66-53.

Despite the loss, Tolu Abosede was a Panther on a mission, scoring 22 points against a tight Clinton defense. Trosky Peña added 11 points, while Jaylen Guscott and Sylvester Ogbemudia each hauled in 12 rebounds.

“Played extremely hard, held a five-point lead at half, and just didn’t have enough to withhold it,” said KIPP coach Moody Bey after the Division 4 matchup. “Thank you to everybody who supported us this season.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wahconah Regional 48

Winthrop 38

In a Division 4 girls basketball matchup, No. 13 Wahconah Regional got the better of No. 20 Winthrop Thursday evening.

The Vikings started off hot in the first quarter, but the hosts responded well. Despite Winthrop cutting the deficit to five points in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough to salvage a win.

Kaylee Farrell led Winthrop with 16 points, followed by partner-in-crime Grace Fleuriel (9).

Dover-Sherborn 60

Saugus 34

The No. 25 Saugus Sachems had a tough one ahead of them on Thursday, and they returned home empty-handed against No. 8 Dover-Sherborn, 60-34.

Peyton DiBiasio had 25 points, while Ashleen Escobar netted eight for Saugus.

“I can’t thank this group of girls enough for their contributions to Saugus High School,” said coach Joseph Lowe. “I’m very excited for their future – as well as the future of the girls basketball program. We are bringing it back.”

BOYS HOCKEY

Essex Tech 7

Bishop Stang 0

The No. 5 Essex Tech hockey team skated right past No. 37 Bishop Stang at Essex Sports Center in Middleton, cruising to a 7-0 victory.

Peabody’s Anthony Bisenti, Brady Leonard, and Jaydan Vargas all found the back of the net, as well as Danvers’ Ted Tsoutsouris (2), Manchester’s Dominic Tiberii, and Beverly’s Logan Casey.

Essex Tech is set to host No. 12 Somerset Berkley Regional in the Division 3 Sweet 16.
