Complete Staffing and Labor, an employment agency that has been in Lynn for the last 13 years, is moving to a new location.
The firm, previously located on Munroe Street, will moves its headquarters to 74 Mount Vernon St.
District Manager Steve Williams said the 12-year lease at Munroe Street ran out, and that faced with the choice of moving out of Lynn or finding a new location in the city, the business opted for the second option as it did not want to leave Lynn.
“We lucked out, we found a really good location there and we wanted to stay in Lynn, we did not want to move, so it worked out really well,” Williams said.
He said Lynn is the ideal location for the agency.
The company began in Manchester, N.H. in 2010. A year later, Complete Labor opened its Lynn Branch on Munroe Street, which was the company’s first branch in Massachusetts.
Williams said the city is “where our roots started.”
At the new downtown location, Williams said he expects better foot traffic. The branch is located near the Lynn interim MBTA Commuter Rail station.
Williams said about 80 percent of jobs the agency covers are day labor positions and the other 20 percent involves skilled labor. The firm works with landscaping, construction, restoration, and carpentry companies. Complete Staffing also serves the manufacturing, food and hotel industries as well as administrative and clerical positions
“There’s very few industries that we do not dabble in,” Williams said.
Complete Labor employs Commercial Driver’s License workers and Department of Transportation drivers.
Williams said the advantage of going through Complete Labor Staffing is that the agency provides fully vetted employees who can legally work in the United States.
Complete Staffing and Labor takes care of all the bureaucratic work – from background checks to drug screenings.
For the companies that have seasonal businesses it’s very beneficial to employ people through the agency, Williams said.
“By using us the employee works for us and therefore when they don’t need the employee they just let us know and we let the worker know that you know the job is ending and we’ll put them on another job so it saves a lot of paperwork on their end,” he said.
Layoffs and termination go through Complete Labor and Staffing.
Williams said he appreciates Lynn.
“The community is extremely diverse, we take pride in having the ability to deal with all walks of life,” he said.
Workers have to prove themselves to Complete Labor and Staffing by showing they are worth hiring. Complete clients have to work for at least six to 10 weeks to become eligible for permanent employment with a company.
Lifelong Lynner Sue Higgins is branch manager for the Lynn location. She has been with the company for six years.
“There are a lot of people looking for jobs and we try to help each and every one of them,” Higgins said.
Higgins said the agency works with those who may have issues or breaks in employment history in the past.
“It’s a second-chance company so even if you’ve gotten in trouble or gone to jail, you can still come here and nobody is going to judge you,” she said.
Higgins said spring and summer are the busiest seasons for the company when the landscaping and construction industries really pick up.
Williams said ultimately it’s a plus for companies to go through Complete Labor and Staffing.
“We are successful when the economy is great and when the economy is suffering,” he said.
Complete Labor and Staffing will hold a grand reopening March 22 at the new Lynn location.
There are 15 branch locations total with six locations in Massachusetts, three in New Hampshire, three in Maine, and three in Connecticut. The agency will be looking to open a second Connecticut location in the summer or fall.
