BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

HIGH-QUALITY GROWTH OF STEEL INDUSTRY

China’s steel industry aims to achieve a high-quality growth featuring more advanced technology and equipment, stable resources supply, higher level of intelligence, enhanced global competitiveness and reduced emissions by 2025, according to a government development guideline.

The sector’s innovation capacity will be significantly enhanced, with the R&D investment intensity, the numerical control rate of key processes and the digitalization rate of manufacturing equipment reaching 1.5 percent, 80 percent and 55 percent, respectively, the guideline noted, adding that more than 30 smart factories will be built by 2025.

INVESTMENT IN INTERNET INDUSTRY

Investment and financing in China’s internet industry stayed at a low level in the fourth quarter of last year, said a report released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

The disclosed value of investment and financing stood at 9.74 billion U.S. dollars in the fourth quarter of 2021, rising 6.4 percent quarter on quarter but decreasing by 49.2 percent from a year ago, data from the report showed.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY

North China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has uncovered prehistoric underpass ruins, said the region’s institute of cultural relics and archaeology on Sunday.

The underpass was unearthed along with over 20 ruins, including city gates, city walls, building foundations, tombs, jade, pottery, and bone ware relics. The discoveries are of significant value to prehistoric cultural studies and origins of civilization in northern parts of China, said the researchers.
