BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news in China.

PEST CONTROL

A new green pest prevention and control technology has been widely promoted on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and proved effective, according to the Science and Technology Department of Tibet.

The technology has been applied to about 4.5 million hectares in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region and northwest China’s Qinghai Province, officials of the department said.

EARLY WARNING FOR LIVER DISEASE

A study by Chinese scientists and their German counterparts has revealed that microbes in one’s gut can be used as risk indicators for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

NAFLD, in which fat builds up in the liver due to factors other than alcohol, affects around a quarter of the adult population in the world, and its cause remains unknown.

Scientists from Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People’s Hospital and Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology-Hans Knoll Institute identified reliable, microbiome markers for the early detection of NAFLD.

DISCOVERIES AT SANXINGDUI RUINS

Archaeologists have recently made some stunning discoveries at the famed Sanxingdui Ruins site in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

A treasure trove of exquisite bronze, gold and jade wares, including at least 10 bronzewares unearthed for the first time in the history of human civilization, have been excavated at the site.

A joint team of archaeologists from Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archaeology Research Institute, Peking University, Sichuan University and other research institutions and universities has carried out the excavation of six sacrificial pits at this site since 2020.
