BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

CIVIL UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE

China’s Wing Loong-2H large civil unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has recently conducted a cloud seeding operation on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, according to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Wing Loong-2H detected the precipitation clouds and successfully carried out artificial rainfall and snowfall enhancement over the Aemye Ma-chhen Range in the Sanjiangyuan region on the plateau, said the AVIC, the country’s leading planemaker.

This operation is in joint efforts of the Weather Modification Center under the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Meteorological Observation Center under the CMA, AVIC (Chengdu) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System Co., Ltd., and multiple other units.

ELECTRONIC INFORMATION MANUFACTURING

China’s electronic information manufacturing industry logged steady expansion in terms of production, revenue, exports and investment during the January-August period, official data showed.

The added value of major firms in the sector rose 9.3 percent year on year during this period, 5.7 percentage points higher than the overall growth for all industries, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The combined operating revenue of these firms topped 9.52 trillion yuan (about 1.34 trillion U.S. dollars) in the first eight months, up 7.6 percent year on year, the data showed.

NEW-ENERGY VEHICLE

China has renewed its policy support for the new-energy vehicle (NEV) sector, a move that experts believe will further fuel an industry that is already in the fast lane.

Days ahead of the National Day holiday, usually seen as a peak shopping season, China announced that the purchase tax exemption for NEVs will be extended to the end of 2023. This marks the third extension since the country first implemented the policy in 2014.

Based on the selling prices of mainstream new-energy vehicles in the market, experts estimate that the policy will help car buyers save about 10,000 yuan, while policymakers expect it to result in 100 billion yuan of taxes waived nationwide.
