You know what I’ve been thinking? Just because she graduated high school, doesn’t mean she’s slowing down.
Niya Morgen, of Swampscott, who attended St. Mary’s and now plays college basketball at Bentley, took home NE10 Rookie of the Week honors.
The freshman guard shot .529 and went 5-for-9 from downtown while averaging 11.5 points, three rebounds and 1.5 steals during a 2-0 week.
Following an eight-point, five-rebound performance against New Haven, she had added another 15 and two steals against St. Thomas Aquinas.
The former Item Player of the Year does it all on the court. From tight defense, flashy ball-handling (just ask coach Jeff Newhall), sharpshooting, and timely plays, Morgen does it all.
Bentley sits at 4-1 with victories against Daemen, Roberts Wesleyan, Newhaven, and St. Thomas Aquinas. Its loss came against American Int’l, but the Falcons return to action Wednesday against Saint Anselm.
Niya, good week.
