You know what I’ve been thinking? Playing on the road didn’t phase Pierre Veras one bit this week.
The Lynn English boys basketball team finished off a 2-0 week after Saturday’s win against rival Lynn Classical. In enemy territory, Veras scored 13 points and hauled in seven rebounds to help lead the Bulldogs to an 11-2 record.
But Everett is where Veras shined the brightest.
In a Tuesday night thriller, English trailed by 22 points in the second half, but clawed all the way back to win the game 75-73.
Veras scored 20 points and tracked down 10 boards, hitting the game-winning layup at the buzzer off an offensive rebound.
After his heroics – a play that silenced the home crowd – Veras was named “Dawg of the Game” by coach Alvin Abreu on the team’s X account, formerly known as Twitter.
“What makes him so effective is his high motor,” Abreu said. “He’s a tremendous finisher in transition and he has great timing in cleaning up the glass – especially offensive rebounding – hence his game-winning bucket against Everett.”
Pierre, good week.
