BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

TCM DEVELOPMENT

China intends to make traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) play a greater role in infectious disease prevention, treatment and public health response, according to a newly-unveiled government plan.

The TCM development plan for the 14th Five-Year period (2021-2025) hails the important contribution made by TCM to COVID-19 control and treatment and proposes systematic arrangements that encourage the combination of Chinese and Western medicine and enhance TCM treatment capacity.

EMOJI-LIKE ANCIENT FISH

Chinese researchers have discovered the fossil of two emoji-like ancient fish species in east China’s Jiangxi Province.

The fish age was estimated as early Telychian, or the Silurian Lower Red Beds, dating back about 438 million years, according to the research article recently published in the Journal of Asian Earth Sciences.

The two new species, Qingshuiaspis junqingi and Anjiaspis ericius, were described from the lower Telychian Qingshui Formation in the province’s Wuning County.

INTELLIGENT LIGHTHOUSE FACTORY

Consumer goods giant Unilever’s ice cream brand, Wall’s, has unveiled its new “lighthouse factory” in Taicang City, east China’s Jiangsu Province.

The intelligent factory, the world’s first “lighthouse factory” in the ice cream industry, adopts smart manufacturing technology of ice cream products that can help reduce carbon emissions and energy and water consumption by 83 percent and 14 percent, respectively, according to the city’s bureau of commerce.
