BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

NEW SATELLITE

China launched a new Earth-observation satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Thursday.

The satellite, Gaofen-3 03, was launched by a Long March-4C rocket at 7:47 a.m. (Beijing Time) and has entered the planned orbit successfully.

BACTERIA IN TUMORS

One reason why many cancers are so dangerous is that they metastasize. A new study led by Chinese scientists revealed that the bacteria in the tumor cells assist cancer’s relocation and promote cell survival during tumor progression.

Researchers from the Westlake Laboratory of Life Sciences and Biomedicine found that microbes could hijack tumor cells and bolster the strength of those host cells against mechanical stress in the bloodstream.

BEIJING MUSEUM

The China Science and Technology Museum said it has launched a series of space-science popularization activities ahead of China’s Space Day, which falls on April 24.

The event, which will last throughout April, aims to provide the public with an all-round and multi-sensory experience of space science, including exhibitions, science lectures, science courses and special-effect movies.
