BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

ZHANGZHOU NUCLEAR POWER PROJECT

China has begun construction on the second phase of the Zhangzhou nuclear power project using Hualong One reactors, domestically developed third-generation reactors, in the city of Zhangzhou, east China’s Fujian Province.

The first four Hualong One units have been completed and put into operation, according to the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).

The Zhangzhou nuclear power project is designed to consist of six nuclear power units, each with a 1-million-kilowatt power generation capacity.

EMERGENCY-RESCUE EQUIPMENT

China is gearing up to develop more advanced equipment to promote the modernization of the country’s emergency management systems and capabilities.

Multiple new models of aircraft, smart robots and other equipment for emergency response are on the fast track of development and application, thanks to the joint efforts of government authorities and manufacturers.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is endeavoring to speed up the progress of key models of aeronautical equipment tailored to serve the country’s emergency rescue demands, according to the AVIC, China’s leading aircraft manufacturer.

WIND POWER

A project to produce hydrogen and methanol from 2 million kW wind power will be launched in the Hinggan League of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to a development agreement signed recently.

The project, run by China General Nuclear Power Corporation with a total investment of about 16 billion yuan (about 2.25 billion U.S. dollars), is expected to yield an annual output of about 107,900 tonnes of hydrogen, and about 800,000 tonnes of methanol.

The first phase of the project with 1 million kW wind power is planned to be implemented in 2024 and 2025.
