NEW CARGO CRAFT

China launched cargo spacecraft Tianzhou-7 on Wednesday night to deliver supplies for its orbiting Tiangong space station, according to the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA).

The Long March-7 Y8 rocket, carrying Tianzhou-7, blasted off at 10:27 p.m. (Beijing Time) from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern island province of Hainan, the CMSA said.

LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL

A new-generation large language model, capable of accepting and processing about 300,000 Chinese characters at one time, was released in Shanghai on Wednesday.

The new model, InternLM2, was developed by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, SenseTime, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Fudan University.

CLONED RHESUS MONKEY

A group of Chinese scientists have reported the first instance of a cloned rhesus monkey that has reached adulthood, an achievement that may offer a promising strategy for primate cloning.

Using somatic cell nuclear transfer, a technique in which the DNA of a non-germ cell is transferred into an immature female germ cell for the generation of a new individual genetically identical to the donor, the Chinese team cloned the world’s first macaques in 2018.
