BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

NEW-ENERGY POWER

Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has seen its energy mix constantly improving, with its installed capacity of new-energy power generation topping 40 million kilowatts for the first time in January 2023.

The region’s installed capacity of new-energy power generation has increased to 40.7 million kilowatts, accounting for 36.09 percent of the total installed capacity, according to State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd.

Specifically, the installed capacity of wind power reached 26.1 million kilowatts, while that of photovoltaic power stood at 14.5 million kilowatts.

PREHISTORIC RUINS

An ancient hominid site dating back some 13,200 years ago has been unveiled in east China’s Shandong Province, with over 1,000 relics, including pottery sculptures.

The site is in Zhaojiaxuyao Village of Zibo City and existed around the transition period between the Palaeolithic Age and the Neolithic Age.

Its core area covers about 400 square meters. Most of the unearthed relics were animal bones, pottery shreds, and pottery sculptures, while some stoneware and clamshell products were also found at the site.

METEOROLOGICAL STATIONS

Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has built more meteorological monitoring stations to improve its weather monitoring and forecasting abilities, according to local authorities.

Over the past ten years, the number of meteorological monitoring stations in Tibet has increased from 162 to 1,097. Several weather radar construction projects have been launched to receive real-time data from satellites.

Tibet has realized the full coverage of meteorological service agencies in county-level areas and automatic meteorological stations in townships, the regional meteorological bureau said on Saturday.
