BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

FOSSIL DISCOVERY

Chinese researchers have for the first time discovered fossils of the therocephalian Euchambersia in China, according to a paper published in the journal Biology Letters.

The research team from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences has discovered a well-preserved skull and mandible showing a well-developed maxillary fossa in the late Permian strata of Daqingshan, north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

UNMANNED DRONES

Nearly 2,000 unmanned drones have been deployed in east China’s Jiangsu Province for automatic transmission line inspections, according to State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co., Ltd.

　　With an average of 2.5 drones covering every 100 km of power lines, currently the economic powerhouse has all of its key transmission lines being inspected by the drones.

5G BASE STATIONS

The amount of 5G base stations in use across China has exceeded 1.85 million, greatly facilitating the country’s digitalization drive, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China will strive to add 600,000 5G base stations in 2022 and accelerate upgrading industrial internet.
