BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news in China.

LEVER-INSPIRED TRIBOELECTRIC NANOGENERATOR

Chinese researchers have proposed a new strategy for the lever-inspired triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) with ultra-high output for pulse monitoring.

The strategy provides new paths to improve the output signal, and develop a lever-inspired contact separation TENG by increasing the charge transfer speed.

VIRTUAL EXHIBITIONS

The Chinese Academy of Sciences launched a two-day online display of its advanced experiments and research facilities at the 18th Public Science Day, to offer the science-savvy audience an opportunity to engage with China’s latest sci-tech achievements.

From May 21 to 22, more than 100 research institutions under the academy nationwide provided virtual tours and exhibitions of their observatories, botanical gardens, field stations and key laboratories to science lovers.

AERIAL-AQUATIC ROBOT

A team of Chinese scientists along with their international counterparts have designed a robotic drone capable of crossing the air-water boundary and hitchhiking on surfaces.

The scientists from Beihang University and Imperial College London drew inspiration from remora fish, a family of species known for their adhesive discs that help them catch a ride on marine creatures including whales and sharks. The unique ability of this fish to hitchhike on moving objects helps it to save effort.
