BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China:

“ARTIFICIAL SUN”

China has timely delivered all magnet support assemblies for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), according to the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), an ITER contractor.

The ITER, one of the largest and most important international scientific research projects in the world, is popularly known as “Artificial Sun” since it generates clean, carbon-free energy in a way similar to the sun by emitting light and heat through fusion reactions.

The ITER is jointly funded by the European Union, China, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and Russia.

HUMANOID ROBOT INNOVATION CENTER

A humanoid robot innovation center has been established in the Chinese capital to accelerate the technology supply and industrialization of humanoid robots.

The Beijing humanoid robot innovation center company, officially registered at the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, was jointly built by enterprises that make complete robots, core components and large models of robots.

The center will build both hardware and software parent platforms and focus on tackling key problems that need to be solved urgently in the industry, such as the operation control system and open source OS.

LARGE CRUISE SHIP

After five years of design, building and a subsequent trial voyage, China’s first domestically-built large cruise ship, the “Adora Magic City,” was delivered in Shanghai on Saturday, with its maiden voyage scheduled for Jan. 1, 2024.

To date, China has been able to build an aircraft carrier, a large liquified natural gas carrier and a large cruise ship — the most challenging shipbuilding projects, according to the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

The cruise ship, measuring 323.6 meters in length, with a gross tonnage of 135,500 tonnes, can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers and has a total of 2,125 guest rooms, said the CSSC Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS), the shipbuilder.
