NEW SATELLITE

China successfully sent a new satellite into space from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in the southern island province of Hainan on Tuesday.

The satellite, Zhongxing-1E, was launched at 9:18 p.m. (Beijing Time) by a modified version of the Long March-7 carrier rocket and entered the planned orbit successfully. It will provide high-quality voice, data, radio and television transmission services.

INT’L WHEAT CONGRESS

More than 900 experts from 67 countries came together at the 2nd International Wheat Congress (IWC) in Beijing on Monday to exchange ideas on how to improve the development of the wheat industry worldwide, calling for global cooperation on wheat science and technology innovation to ensure global food security.

Themed “Future Wheat: Resilience and Sustainability,” the conference was launched Monday night.

SYNTHESIZED LEAD WHITE COSMETICS

Chinese researchers have discovered the earliest known residues of synthesized lead white cosmetics in the world in a new archaeological study in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.

The findings of the study conducted by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology were published recently in the journal Humanities and Social Sciences Communications.
