BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

SATELLITE LAUNCH

China on Sunday launched a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket to place two satellites in space.

The pair of satellites, Shiyan-14 and Shiyan-15, were lifted at 6:55 a.m. (Beijing Time) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern province of Shanxi and soon entered the preset orbit.

The Shiyan-14 will mainly be used to conduct scientific experiments and verify new technologies, while the Shiyan-15 will provide data in the fields of land survey, urban planning, and disaster prevention and mitigation.

RENEWABLE ENERGY CAPACITY

China’s installed capacity of renewable energy notched up rapid growth in the first eight months of the year amid the country’s pursuit of green development.

In the January-August period, the installed capacity of wind power increased 16.6 percent year on year to around 340 million kilowatts, while the installed capacity of solar power generation came in at 350 million kilowatts, up 27.2 percent, according to the National Energy Administration.

By the end of August, the country’s total installed power generation capacity reached approximately 2.47 billion kilowatts, rising 8 percent from a year ago, the data showed.

NEV COOPERATION

The global carbon reduction ambition and the transformation of the automobile industry have created tremendous opportunities for China-Germany cooperation in the new-energy vehicle (NEV) sector, industry experts said at the Sino-German Forum on the Development of the NEV Industry.

As part of the 2022 World Manufacturing Convention held in Hefei, capital of east China’s Anhui Province, the forum was attended by experts and heads of NEV enterprises from the two countries.

The global NEV industry has recently been greatly affected by chip shortages and the rising cost of batteries. Attendees at the forum said they believe that close cooperation between NEV enterprises in China and Germany could help enhance the resilience of industrial and supply chains.
