To the editor:

Earlier this year, I made the decision to run for the City Council. At the time I was both excited and anxious about throwing my hat into the ring. I really didn’t know what to expect – just that I wanted to give back. In the final analysis, I found it to be a truly rewarding experience. In a word, it was awesome! I learned so much about the issues, the process, the candidates, and most importantly the things that matter most to the residents of the City of Lynn.

I applaud the winners for their hard work and success and encourage them to respond to the needs of their constituents to make Lynn a better place to live.

While I did not get a seat on the council, I came to realize that there are many ways that we can give back to this great city. It starts with getting involved. As our newly minted councilors get ready to begin their journey, I will continue my journey of active participation in the process, learning about what matters most and helping any way that I can. I encourage others to do the same, as active participation really does matter.

I pledge my time and effort in ways that will help make Lynn more affordable for everyone. This happens by encouraging more and better educational opportunities that make our young people more competitive in the job market. This happens by making our city streets safer for all so that existing and potential future employers will thrive here. This happens by pushing back against insurance companies that charge Lynn more for auto and home premiums than other communities. This happens by using the leverage of our combined buying power to reduce our electric rates. This happens by getting involved.
