A Thursday night basketball game between archrivals that went down to the final seconds – it doesn’t get much better than that.
The visiting Marblehead Magicians squeaked by with a 66-63 win against host Swampscott in a thriller.
Yes, a thriller – just ask Marblehead coach Mike Giardi.
“[It was] a great game between rivals that came down to the wire,” he said.
His Magicians were led by Nick Lemmond’s 27 points. The sharpshooter went home with six triples. He was followed by teammates Scott Campbell (20 points) and Ryan Commoss (13).
On the Swampscott side, dynamic sophomore Connor Chiarello dominated with 25 points – eight coming in the third quarter.
Liam Wales of the Big Blue delivered with 15 points, netting two clutch baskets in the fourth quarter.
Looking ahead, Swampscott hosts Lynn Classical at 7 p.m. on Monday, while Marblehead plays Salem at the TD Garden in Boston this Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
