Despite the strong play of Tech’s Engelyz Bingham (17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, steal), the Tigers met their match at Whittier.

BOYS HOCKEY

Swampscott 2

Somerville 1

A late deficit was no problem for the Big Blue, who stormed back to defeat Somerville, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday night. Will Roddy tied the game late in the third period, while Quinn Hitchcock put Somerville to bed – literally and figuratively – in sudden death.

St. Mary’s 2

Bishop Fenwick 0

After defeating the Crusaders earlier this season, mark it as a season sweep for St. Mary’s in this one. Mike Baldassare and Nick Thornton scored the Spartans’ goals in a 2-0 final at Connery Rink.

St. John’s Prep 5

Malden Catholic 1

Malden Catholic scored a goal late, but other than that, it was a Prep clinic as the Eagles picked up their 11th win of the season.

Cam Umlah scored in the first period, as did Jake Vana on a wrister. Mason Luciano potted two goals, while the other belonged to captain Christian Rosa.

Marblehead 3

Gloucester 1

It wasn’t easy in a hard-fought game, but Marblehead squeezed out a 3-1 win against the Fishermen at Talbot Rink. Kyle Hart ripped the game-winning wrister (2-1) with less than four minutes to go.

After a scoreless first period, Cam Waldman of the Headers broke the ice with a goal in the second.

GIRLS HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 3

Malden Catholic 0

With No. 2 St. Mary’s clashing against No. 4 Malden Catholic, the Lady Spartans got the last laugh in a 3-0 final in enemy territory.

Gianna Tringale made 21 saves between the pipes, while freshman Alyssa Norden scored the first two goals of the game. The other came from fellow freshman Bella Freitas.

Marblehead 2

Medford 2

A game in which 8th graders led Marblehead’s charge, the visiting Lady Headers had to settle for a tie against Medford.

In a middle school connection, Madi Reno scored a goal from Addie Co-Peeps. Marblehead’s second goal came from Teyah Fleming on a dish from Melanie Earl.

Freshman goalie Scarlett Lee of the Lady Headers played well with 10 saves.

“We got standout games from sophomore defender Paige Waldman and 8th grader Madi Reno at forward,” said first-year Marblehead coach Hadley Woodfin.

PLNR 2

Gloucester 1

PLNR made its way to Gloucester after school for a sharp 4 p.m. puck-drop, returning with a 2-1 victory against the Fishermen. Sophomore Mia Lava tucked the game-winning goal from Catie Kampersal and Lily Pregent.

Alyse Mutti made 24 saves in the victory for PLNR, which hosts Beverly this Saturday at noon.
