The City of Peabody scored on the basketball court Friday afternoon, with the Bishop Fenwick girls and Peabody boys racking up double-digit wins.
For the Lady Crusaders, the start of the weekend came with some hardware, too. They defeated Walpole, 56-45, to win the Sue Rivard Tournament at Oliver Ames. Cecilia Kay (22 points, 17 rebounds) took home the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
Celia Neilson earned all-tournament honors with 11 points, five assists, and four steals, while Isabella Lopez-Marin (11 points, 5 steals) “was great,” according to coach Adam DeBaggis.
Fenwick upped its record to 5-1 before Friday’s home matchup against Cardinal Spellman.
Dribbling over to Triton High, the Peabody boys left with a 67-40 win. Raphel Laurent (23 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Anthony Forte (14 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), and Jariel Tolentino (10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) caught eyes.
“John Lucas (5 points), Cam Connolly, and Jim Festa also played well,” said coach Thad Broughton, whose Tanners improved to 5-1.

Despite the final scoreline, it didn’t come without positives. For the Big Blue, Victoria Quagrello (10 points, 7 rebounds) and Sam Ward (9 points) led the charge.
They host Peabody at home on Tuesday.

Lynn English captured a consolation win against KIPP in the Walter J. Boverini girls tournament, led by Jaeleigh Perry (18 points), Amara Flores (18), and Jayleen Novas-Rivera (14).
KIPP was led by Sky Delacruz (13 points) and Hailey Herrera (7).
“[It was a] tough step up in competition at the Boverini,” said first-year KIPP coach Mike McCarthy. “We will get back into the gym to work hard and be better in our next game.”

In the consolation game of the Walter J. Boverini boys basketball tournament, Lynn English bounced back after its overtime loss to tournament-winning St. Mary’s.
Pierre Veras (23 points), Kyle Kemembin (20 points), Josh Anderson (10 points, 12 rebounds), and Carmelo Buese (15 points) stood out offensively and on the glass.
