ROUNDUP: Saugus boys basketball gets it done late

Comeback complete. The Saugus boys basketball team trailed by 13 in the third quarter against Amesbury, but played to the final whistle in a 52-51 victory.

When Saugus needed to ice the game, Ryan Shea obliged with clutch free throws to seal it. He led the victors with 16 points, while Isaiah Rodriguez chipped in with 11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Malden 46

The Rams had a mixture of everything on Thursday. They had great offense from Marvin Avery Jr., who finished with 14 points, and great defense from DJ Reynolds.

Bishop Feehan 85
Bishop Fenwick 52

It was a tough night for the Crusaders, who faced off against an explosive Bishop Feehan squad. James Meklis led Fenwick with 20 points, while Jimmy Vahey recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Bellacini also chipped in with 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Classical 38
Malden 34

The Lady Rams picked up their third win of the season (3-1) with a strong performance against Malden. Keisha Perez (9 points), Linda Jallow (9), Divine Egbuta (8), and Nevaeh Eth (6) all contributed in the win.

KIPP 48
Roxbury Prep 16

After last season (1-19), KIPP has completely flipped the switch and moved to 3-0 Thursday night. Lazuli Clark (10 points, 6 rebounds), Sky Delacruz (14 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds), and Katrina Fortes (8 points, 8 rebounds) led the charge.

“Jani Ocasio, Saja Suliman, and Marissa Esteban added solid bench scoring and defense,” said coach Mike McCarthy.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Magicians were no match in the pool, as swimmer after swimmer qualified for states and sectionals, according to coach Susan Guertin. Marblehead defeated Beverly, 101-55.

“It was a really good meet,” she said.

Lynn Classical came up short against Malden, but despite the loss, Andrew Moore (100 butterfly) and Camille Mendonca (500 free) both impressed.
