You know what I’ve been thinking? This one could get me in trouble, but which football team is the best in Lynn?
Honestly, there are too many factors at play: strength of schedule, experience, participation, school size, and so forth.
Is it high-flying Classical with its aerial attack, maybe St. Mary’s with many of its players being Super Bowl champs?
But, wait, English almost beat Classical Thursday and Tech – led by 8th grade quarterback Jadiel Ortega – has shown its potential a few times this season.
I digress (maybe a column for another time).
This week, however, it was KIPP.
It pounced all over Tech, 45-19, led by Morenel Castro’s five touchdowns. The do-it-all Panther broke four records in the win, but his teammates shined, too.
Jovan Machado ran hard (per usual), Chanel Gutierrez put the ball into effective areas alongside four touchdowns, and the defense played with passion in the second half.
The Panthers finished 8-3 and, man, that eighth one must’ve felt good after falling short in their Super Bowl quest.
To coach Jim Rabbitt and the rest of his program, good week.
