ASTEROID OBSERVATION
China plans to use its new China Compound Eye facility in Chongqing to observe asteroids and Earth-like planets hundreds of millions of kilometers away as part of its planetary defense work.
The Chongqing Innovation Center under the Beijing Institute of Technology, which designed and built the China Compound Eye, recently released its first 3D radar map of an area of moon craters taken by the high-definition deep-space observation facility.
SOLAR FLARE STUDY
Chinese researchers have demonstrated laser-driven turbulent magnetic reconnection in a laboratory, an experiment that can help scientists learn more about solar flares.
A paper on the findings, which reproduce key features of solar flares, has been published in Nature Physics, an international journal on physics.
XINJIANG HIGH-TECH ENTERPRISES
The number of high-tech enterprises in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region increased 43.4 percent to 1,368 in 2022, local authorities said.
The regional science and technology department said that the figure grew from 954 in 2021.
