BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
NEW SATELLITE
China on Saturday sent a new satellite into planned orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The Shiyan-20 C satellite was launched at 9:01 a.m. (Beijing Time) on a Long March-2D carrier rocket.
The satellite will be mainly used for in-orbit verification of new technologies such as space environment monitoring.
16-HOUR INTERMITTENT FASTING AND HEALTH
A Chinese research team has found that a 16-hour intermittent fasting plan may benefit health the most.
Researchers from China’s Hunan Normal University examined 600 samples across four metabolic tissues of mice, including liver, skeletal muscle, brown fat, and white fat. The mice were under five feeding schedules.
According to the research paper published in Cell Reports, only fasting for 16 hours can initiate a circadian resonance of 43 pathways in the liver, and the resonance punctually switches following feeding.
NEW PLANT SPECIES
Chinese researchers have discovered a total of three new plant species of Impatiens and published the relevant findings in the international journal Phytotaxa.
The new discoveries include two species, Impatiens yaojiapingensis and Impatiens longyangensis, which were found in the Gaoligong Mountains in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, according to a research team from Wuhan Botanical Garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The third new species, Impatiens piufanensis, was found in the Wuling Mountains in central China.
